BIOGRAPHY
Influenced by an exceptional range of musical styles and genres, Tony’s versatility has earned him a passport to cross many musical borders with authenticity. His experience, as with his musical tastes, varies greatly —not only as an accomplished Electric and Upright Bassist and Musical Director, —but also as a notable Multi-Instrumentalist, Composer, Mentor and Educator.
His extensive musical past as a touring and recording bassist has included touring with the late great Reggae legend Lee “Scratch” Perry, being a member of The Steve Vai Band and holding down the low-end for a range of award winning icons & luminaries such as Monty Python’s Eric Idle, guitarist Spencer Davis, visionary violinist Lili Haydn, A-list voice-actor & vocalist EG Daily, punk-rock icon Wayne Kramer (The MC5), Los Angeles’ own critically acclaimed The Toledo Show, as well as with the illustrious pop legend Lionel Richie.
Tony has performed at hundreds of events & venues ranging from San Francisco’s “The Fillmore” & N.Y.C.’s Carnegie Hall, to L.A.’s Hollywood Bowl and Denver’s Red Rocks Colosseum, as well as festivals ranging from Lollapalooza, SXSW and the White Nights Festival in St Petersburg Russia.

On camera performances have included performing with Lionel Richie (Cinderella), gospel greats Yolanda Adams and Donnie McClurkin (The Prayer), two appearances on CBS’s The Price is Right hosted by Drew Carey (featured & performing live on the show as bassist & solo performer showcasing ESP Basses), The Toledo Show (True Jazz), Eric Idle Exploits Monty Python (US and Canada Tour), as well as the Eric Idle Exploits Monty Python Tour’s “Live from DC” HD recordings, guitar virtuoso Steve Vai (White Nights Festival, Live from Moscow Russia and the first-half of the US arena-tour traveling the U.S. with Bon Jovi), and multiple on-camera commercial spots including performances on upright bass for the John Hopkins Research national commercial-spot , backing the holographically-stylized CG images of Jazz legend, Louis Armstrong.
Tony’s bass playing (and original compositions) can be heard in numerous commercials (Acura, Budweiser), film scores (Goodnight Joseph Parker, True Jazz), television theme songs (The Gong Show, Graceland, Bourbon & Brash: Live at The W ), TV series’ (Baby Blues, Brutally Normal), documentaries (Schooling Jewel, Corrections) and albums (Misfit’s Lullabye, Cinderella Slippers).

As the Musical Director for Sony/Columbia/TriStar and Evolution Entertainment’s pilots of The Gong Show hosted by Tom Arnold, Tony acted as bandleader for his self-titled six piece band “Tony & The Test Tubes”, in addition to composing the shows title theme song as well as incidental music. He was also Musical Director for the Comedy Central pilots Graceland at IO West.
Recently, Tony also served again as Musical Director, Band Leader, on-camera Bassist as well as the shows theme-song-composer for Hollywood’s legendary Melrose Avenue comedy-club, The Improv ; Fresh Faces & Friends , and again as the resident Musical Director, Band Leader and Bassist for The W Hotel Hollywood Bourbon & Brash; bi-weekly live-streaming online variety show.

In addition to having been a facility member at The Musicians Institute in Hollywood for well over 10 years, Tony has endorsed ESP Basses and Guitars for over five years, and has served as a bass clinician for the company (NAMM events & shows, ESP basses product demo videos).
• Tony (verified & credited here on IMDB Tony Pimental) has also worked as the Contestant Judge, Music Coach, and as Music Consultant on Vh1’s “You Rock With!”, where he worked with the shows producers and creators, voted on the many contestant auditions and worked directly with the shows four guitar-playing finalists, including of course the shows winner, Shane Baskerville. Tony was also flown to Alabama for consulting and logistics and was working on location for the shows surprise finally. •
•Tony earned his 3 year Masters Certificate in Music Theory, Harmony and Ear Training in 2016, as well as a 2 year Professional Certificate in Bass Guitar in 2014 from ~ Berklee College of Music ~ Berklee Online, where he studied with such luminaries and esteemed faculty members as Jazz vibraphonist Gary Burton.•
Tony records, composes and masters for audio and video projects from his studio Planet Hz and has been a member of ASCAP since 2001. He remains a staunch advocate for, and proud due-paying member of the Professional Musicians Union -Local 47- in Hollywood CA (American Federation of Musicians AFL-CIO ) for over 20 years.
